Wild Witch candles made from lightly scented vanilla Beeswax and wild Mullein stalks. These candles were hand dipped and hung to dry by myself.

Throughout history many cultures have practiced the ritual of dipping dried mullein stalks in beeswax to create “candles” or torches. These torches were then used as a source of light during a variety of ceremonies. Historically, mullein candles have been burned to drive away evil in both Europe and Asia, and in the tale of Ulysses he used mullein to protect himself against the magic wiles of Circe.

Other names for mullein include Our Lady’s Candle, Candlewick Plant, and Hag Taper (as the stalk candles were either used by witches or used to repel them).

All mullein stalks were wild-harvested in the Adirondack Mountains of New York on our property that does not use any unnatural pesticides or other chemicals. Beeswax used is pure, organic.

SIZES: There have been new sizes recently added. Skinny torches don't have flower material on them but will burn approximately the same.
Small: 6-7 inches, small stalks.
Large: 8-9 inches with thick stalks.
XL: There is one 16inch torch and two 17inch torches available. These would be ideal for outdoors ONLY. I would not suggest burning it inside due to their size.

***Currently only two sizes available***

USE AND CAUTIONS: Perfect for your altar space, these are fascinating to watch burn! They will produce a tall, bright flame: so do not burn the candle underneath any surface.

To burn: place sturdily in a candlestick or glass bottle in a clear space, I suggest a glass bowl/holder with salt or sand in the bottom (do not burn near or underneath anything flammable). Placing on a plate is advised to catch small bits of ash and beeswax that may fall. Light top of candle until wax melts away and top of mullein stalk is lit. Candle will produce little to no smoke if flame as it burns, and will burn at a rate of about 10-15 minutes per inch. Larger candles can be cut to make more, shorter candle, as candles should be burned all at once. If needed they may be snuffed out and re-used, but it is not advised. They do, of course, not need to be burned at all and make beautiful eye-catching altar pieces or conversation starters.

Please note the images you see here are examples of each size. Every candle is one-of-a-kind and will vary in appearance.
